Competition
Roz’s Dance Works Competition Guidelines
1. Competition is a team effort. We want your participation
to be a learning experience as well as a pleasurable way to
perform in the art of dance. Competition can be an aggressive
event, however we want to stress the importance of enjoyment
over demand of title placement.
2. Competition is a financial and extra time commitment for
both the student as well as the parent.
3. All potential competition students are required to audition
for the team. Auditions are designed to help us make sure that
your child is technically prepared for competition. The beginning
stages of our new team may increase the likelihood that certain
age or size restrictions may apply. We encourage potential students
to audition, however, all students should be aware that a waiting
list may be necessary if size/ability constraints are needed.
4. All potential student team members should be no younger than
10 years of age by the audition date unless specifically waived
by the teacher.
5. All competition students should have a solid background in
both Tap and Jazz technique. A list of guidelines will be provided
to help you ensure that your child meets the requirements for
competition. This list is a suggestion to parents, however,
all students are different and have various learning curves.
If you question your child’s ability to participate in
the audition process please contact Roz for additional assistance.
6. Students are required to participate in a performance Tap/Jazz
class to be eligible for competition. Additional specialty classes
are available (hip-hop, street-tap, etc.) but are not required.
7. All competition students will attend a 2-hour class once
a week on the designated day. (Saturday AM) Students are expected
to attend ALL classes. We understand that our students may sometimes
have other engagements, however excessive absence from class
will result in disciplinary action and possible removal from
the team. Absences must be discussed with the teacher prior
to the week of class. This class consists of technique as well
as choreography.
8. All competition fees for classes are due on the first of
the month.
9. Dance competitions all require fees for competing students.
These fees vary in price and are based on the category that
the routine will participate under. Each entry routine will
have a fee per student. A breakdown of these fees will be provided
for your review.
10. All fees must be paid by a deadline designated by the competition
organization and/or studio for our team to be eligible to participate.
A schedule will be provided.
11. We have chosen to keep the cost to parents at a minimum
by attending local competitions. These competitions are usually
performed in Albany at the Palace Theater and may vary from
1-2 days of attendance. Routines can start as early as 8am and
all students are required to be at the theater 1 hour earlier
to warm-up etc.
12. Parents are responsible for their children for the duration
of the competition, unfortunately we are not able to monitor
students or provide supervision, and therefore all parents are
required to attend, unless alternate guardianship is provided.
13. Students are required to purchase a costume for each routine
they participate in. Prices may vary, however, every effort
will be made to keep the cost reasonable.
